CCTV cameras are installed in the buses of Dhaka to facilitate the movement of women in public transport. So far, five bus companies and 108 buses on different routes have installed CCTV cameras.
The buses came under the CCTV surveillance are Rajdhani Super Service Limited from Chandra to Demra Staff Quarter, Basumti Transport Limited from Gabtali to Gazipur, Projapati Paribahan Limited from Mohammadpur to Abdullahpur, Paristhan Paribahan from Ghatarchar to Abdullahpur and 25 buses have been fitted with CCTV. Apart from this, CC cameras have also been installed in 8 buses of Gabtali Express going from Gabtali to Saidabad.
State Minister for Women and Child Affairs Fazilatun Nesa Indira said that all buses are being brought under CCTV cameras gradually.

The state minister gave this information at the inauguration ceremony of installing CCTV in public transport under the 'Safe Travel Management Program for Women in Public Transport' of the Ministry of Women and Child Affairs at the Syed Nazrul Islam Convention Center in Gabtali on Sunday.
Deepta Foundation, a private organization, is implementing the program funded by the government. The staff of this foundation will observe the CC footage and submit a report to the Ministry of Women and Child Affairs every three months.
State Minister Fazilatun Nessa Indira said in her speech as the chief guest at the event, “Public transport will be women-friendly and safe by installing CCTV. Women will feel comfortable boarding buses with CC cameras. Because of the presence of CC cameras, common passengers of these buses will also be alert and awareness will be created among them. To ensure the safety of women, CC cameras will be installed in all buses.”
'Due to the installation of CC cameras, women will be able to report complaints through 999 and 109. In case of harassment or torture, the CCTV footage will be used as evidence and evidence in the court”, she added.
